Imagine the Animated version of Entourage set in Lagos city … Well that fusion of comedy with a flare of a reality TV no longer has to be simply a good idea. Orange City is a long overdue representation of the versed Nigerian, West African cultures and talent in the form of an animated series. It reaches out to the international audience while staying true to its core roots. You not only get to witness animated characters dancing Skelewu but you get to celebrate the diversity of West Africa in terms of experiences and contemporary lifestyle.

The main character Wahala (meaning trouble in pidgin) ever the optimist, is a “hot on the streets” Afro beats musician living with his ex-Military grandmother Mama Nne. When his uncle a well-known money thirsty politician Chief Obadike invest heavily into his indie record label Orange City, Wahala and his dysfunctional team : Kome, Kabuki and Ape take on a hilarious journey through stardom as they discover the true face of Nigerian celebrity, lifestyles and culture!

Creator and director Somto Ajuluchukwu explain “I wanted to create a story that shared a side of Lagos which excites everyone, aside of Lagos that makes you just want to be there.” He continued “I am inspired by Seth MacFarlane and Matt Groening, I wanted to create a story adults could connect, with using elements of our culture which are most polarising such as our music, politics and street culture, I really can’t wait to continue telling the story as we pull you deeper into this wacky universe.”

After its premiere at the Accra Animation Film Festival last August, Vortex the studio behind Orange City is hoping to convert it into a six-part limited series which would be on sale to any VOD platform that might be interested in it.
