By the end of this year, one million people are expected to visit Ghana for the “Year of Return”. On December 30, 2019, Esi Yamoah, a second generation GhanaianAmerican, award-winning producer, actress and past returnee, hosts a community networking event for local creative Ghanaians and the African Diaspora to meet.

The event takes place at De Youngster’s International School RRC in Accra, Ghana. “I started my professional career in the Ghanaian film and television industry and it’s important for me to give back to my community and Ghana.” Yamoah says.

While many people prepare for the huge influx of visitors, Yamoah focuses on creating an opportunity for local artists within the African Diaspora to connect, network and discuss Ghana’s creative future on the local and international scale.

Guest speakers for the event include: Kwaku O. Boateng, co-producer of the critically acclaimed and award-winning film, The Burial of Kojo; Mame Adjei, the runner-up in America’s Next Top Model cycle 22; Francis Y. Brown, Ghana’s first Animation Hub Creator; Nicole Amarteifio, television producer and creator An African City; Prince Kojo Hilton, the multi-talented award-winning artist; Alphonse Menyo, the award-winning actor of Gold Coast Lounge and Twins Don’t Beg, known as Ghana’s most influential young photographers.

Yamoah expounds, “It’s important that during this time, we focus on how to build a stronger foundation for today and generations to come.”

This year, Yamoah Entertainment, owned by Yamoah, has partnered with the nonprofit art African initiative, Visual Art Students Empowerment (VASEP) project. Founded by Prince Kojo-Hilton, part of the event proceeds will go toward purchasing art supplies for children to continue art education in Ghanaian schools. VASEP members will also perform a live art and show exhibit at the event on December 30.

“The kids are our future and it’s important we create a bright future for them.” Prince says.
