Selassie Yao To Raise The Bar With Barz.

The writer of Yolo Season 5, Selassie Yao is set to produce his first TV series, a musical drama titled Barz under his Sky Works Productions.

Selassie Yao, who won the award for outstanding writing at the 2019 Ghana movie/series awards, will produce, pen and direct the project.

The project has a very engaging and relatable storyline and will serve movie/series lovers with a combination of drama, humor, romance, ear-grabbing music, and eye-catching performances.

The thirteen-episode serial follows the life of Obrempong. an up and coming rapper who is looking for a breakthrough opportunity to turn his life and the fortunes of his family around. The story also highlights the life of other wannabe artists as they navigate their way to the top of the music industry in a society that does not see arts and entertainment as a viable venture. Themes of drug and alcohol use, sex and reproductive health matters are also addressed.

The show will feature Youtube star Liyadances (Aaliyah Sankofa) and fast-rising rapper, Kojo Luda (Ayimah Kojo Seth) as the lead characters. Other exciting young artists like Odenkyem (Delove August), Grawa (Jesse Annan Vidicks) winner of Joy Daddy Rap Show 2017, Christabel Amoabeng, Joseph Hergurson, Etty Bedi, Edwin Elikem Amenyeawu, and Grandpa of date rush season 4 will also play major supporting roles.

There will also be guest appearances and surprise cameos from some popular artists from both the music and movies circle.

Bernard Kabu (Goon Beatz), a finalist at the 2020 Ghana Beat Makers battle competition, will be working alongside other talented producers to record the original soundtracks for the series. The producer hopes these would not only be a driving force for the series but would also become household songs in Ghana and beyond.

Principal photography will begin by the end of the first quarter of 2021 and the series is set to hit screens no later than the second quarter of the year.
